Dangote economics is shaping African Economy for better

Alhaji Aliko Dangote involvement in many industries all around the world. In 2017 Aliko Dangote partnered with China’s heavy-duty truck group Sinotruck to set up a $100 million plant to assemble trucks and cars in Nigeria for local use and export.

Dangote Sinotruk West Africa Limited is a joint venture, in which 65% owned by Dangote and 35% by Sinotruck and the company has the capacity to assemble and produce 15 –16 trucks per shift or 10,000 trucks annually. The company is established to assemble and produce a full range of commercial vehicles covering heavy duty truck, medium truck, light truck and other semi-trailers, etc. and it aims to meet an expected current demand of the segment of Automobiles required for logistics, construction, food and beverage industries in Nigeria to support the government’s efforts in boosting economic development across the country, also, to provide employment opportunities for Nigerians and improve local automobile industry.

The production base will not only serve the market demand in Nigeria but also can fulfil the requirements of neighbouring ECOWAS countries. If other businessmen emulate Dangote in the efforts to create jobs through manufacturing rather than importation of finished products signing the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA) would benefit Nigeria a lot.

Speak Like a Pro

Have you ever wondered what the biggest fear is for most people?
You’re probably thinking that it might be fearing heights, snakes, small spaces, deep water, loneliness, or even death. However, according to Toastmasters International for Public Speaking and Leadership Education, number one fear is Public Speaking. Exactly, public speaking comes on the top of the list of fears, even before death.

If not properly handled, public speaking fear can result into a serious phobia named Glossophobia or speech anxiety, which has symptoms similar to nausea, dry mouth, breathing difficulty, increased blood pressure, and feelings of distress or panic under some circumstances.

Whether you are a job seeker, a student, a lecturer, a manager, or other, there comes a time when you need to speak in front of strangers to present your idea in an impressive way that demonstrates knowledge, self-confidence, and uniqueness, which leads to reaching your goals and experiencing the joyful moments of success.

The first time you say something, it’s heard; the second time, it’s recognized; the third time, it’s learned, as per John Maxwell (author and speaker, who has written many books, primarily focusing on leadership).

As per Dale Carnegie, only the prepared speaker deserves to be confident.

ZEKOBOX: Your best digital marketing ousourcing plan from Nigeria

Are you running a entrepreneurial venture or business entity, time is a precious commodity, and marketing your brand can take up plenty of your time. You are probably therefore reading this article, because you have thought about outsourcing some of these marketing tasks! When you decide to outsource your digital/inbound marketing to an agency (and we at THINK MEDIA NIGERIA), you’ll gain many benefits buy buying our digital marketing service plan called ZEKOBOX,here are 10 advantages of outsourcing your digital marketing efforts:

1. Your marketing won’t suffer as a result of staff problems or annual leave

One of the keys to successful marketing is consistency. The problem, of course, is that marketers aren’t machines, they’re people and people need to take breaks. When staff are sick or on leave, or when a massive, all-hands-on-deck internal event throws everything else off track, marketing suffers. A great example of this is content production. You can’t suddenly stop blogging for a few weeks over the festive season. If you do, Google will notice and your organic rankings will take a hit as a result. Opting to use an agency means that you never have to worry about staff leave or gaps in delivery. To put it bluntly, that’s their problem.

2. You get the services of a team of experts

Your employees have salaries, so instead of coming up with a payroll for one person, you will be paying a team of experts in digital marketing who will research, create and implement marketing strategies that work. Essentially, you are paying for results and way affordable than an employee.

3. You get outside insight on your business

Working on your company day in, day out gives you the chance to understand your business more, but there is always something that is lagging. For instance, figuring out what brings your site visitors, and knowing what to optimize for your business to grow might be blurry to see. Hiring an outsourced marketing expert can give you a new perspective of how to approach your marketing today.

4. You are assured of a return on investment

When you hire a digital marketing expert, you are sure your funds will be invested properly. Since the marketing specialist’s focus will be on leads, they will certainly spend time making sure you get the results you paid for, plus more. This helps you save time and money, while growing your business with experts.

5. You are attuned to the latest industry updates

Since digital marketing experts spend most of their time learning new skills and improving on existing techniques and strategies, it’s fair to say they keep up with the ever changing and growing digital marketing arena. With industry connections like these, it’s easy to get help when a big and important change is about to take place in the industry at large.

6. You get to focus on the core of your business

The outsourcing of digital marketing is mostly considered by companies who wish to keep the process independent from the core of the company. This helps them throw ideas around and develop better strategies that are not clouded by the company itself. With the right information and access, your digital marketing agency can plan, develop and execute on strategies that yield results. The key here is to trust the company you hire and making sure you receive reports and live status updates on projects.

7. You can count on ongoing optimization

This is true, because, well, your digital marketing agency needs to constantly prove ROI by delivering on proposed end goals– or you might cancel your retainer! They’re genuinely interested in, and committed to, continually optimizing your strategy for best results. Outsourcing your marketing means there’s less risk of stagnation or neglect.

8. You get to do more with less

Handling your digital marketing in-house might make it tough to use all the digital channels available to grow your business. You might need help with PPC campaigns, email lists, social media campaigns, but with one in-house employee- it’s practically impossible to create all this content. Outsourcing can let you use multiple marketing channels with ease. You can hire a graphic designer to update your website, a copywriter to handle your blog or email newsletter, and a social media expert to automate your platforms. With a variety of outsourcing services available, you can turn over single campaigns, specialized services, or even entire marketing functions to a capable third party.

9. You’re working with people who’ve been there, done that

Digital marketers have experience and are experts in their field. Most digital agencies specialize in marketing for certain industries, types of clients, or specific locations, and have a resource section full of case studies to prove their expertise. What’s better than working with people who already know the best way to achieve results for your business?

10. You get access to the latest technology

Marketing departments are often technology-deprived, or they have a mixed assortment of incompatible marketing technologies. While companies have access to over 4,000 marketing technologies available to them, how do they know which ones to pick? And it’s often the case that marketing organizations are at the bottom of the IT department’s priority list, so there might be a lack of support and guidance. A performance-based marketing agency that can provide you guidance as well as implementation service and support are extremely valuable.

The Modern executive.

Much has been written about business executives as “organization men.” According to this view, typical company managers no longer display the individualism of earlier generations of entrepreneurs. They seek protection in committee-made decisions and tailor their personalities to please their superiors; they aim to be good “team” members, adopting the firm’s values as their own.

The view is commonly held that there are companies—and entire industries—that have discouraged innovative ideas. The real question now is whether companies will develop policies to encourage autonomy and adventure someness among managers.

In Japan, where the employees of large corporations tend to remain with the same employer throughout their working lives, the corporations recruit young men upon their graduation from universities and train them as company cadets. Those among the cadets who demonstrate ability and a personality compatible with the organization are later selected as managers. Because of the seniority system, many are well past middle age before they achieve high status. There are signs that the system is weakening, however, as efforts are more often made to lift promising young men out of low-echelon positions.

Criticism of the traditional method has been stimulated by the example of some of the newer corporations and of those owned by foreign capital. The few men in the Japanese business world who have emerged as personalities are either founders of corporations, managers of family enterprises, or small businessmen. They share a strong inclination to make their own decisions and to minimize the role of directors and boards.

How To Win A Business Plan Contest

Originally published on May |2018 by Mike Sims

A well developed business plan creates the foundation on which a successful startup will be able to establish itself, and is especially necessary when considering participation in a business plan contest or pitch event. When every factor is considered – market and industry, finance, marketing, operations, and etc. – success becomes a long-term plan as opposed to a hope for a stroke of startup luck. Along with a solid pitch and pitch deck, a business plan is a critical element in your journey to landing a successful seed funding round. Writing an investor-ready business plan can be difficult, but securing funding without a solid plan in place is pretty much impossible.
Once you finally get the perfect business plan written, what’s next? For those who are far enough along in their business, submitting the plan directly to investors might be a wise step. For those who aren’t quite ready to approach VCs yet, but could use a financial boost to get thing going, participating in business plan contests can be a tremendous help. Not only do these competitions often provide significant rewards for the winners, they also often draw the attention of angels, VCs and even corporations looking to invest in or partner with the next billion dollar startup. Unfortunately, where there is honey there are bees – business plan contests often attract some of the brightest minds, and the higher the reward, the more competition you can expect. In this post, we’ll explore everything you need to know to find a great business plan contest, enter it with confidence, and win against other participating startups!
The Benefits of Winning A Business Plan Contest
Business plan competitions are beneficial platforms that allow entrepreneurs to showcase their idea, product or startup to a group of judges. Often, these competitions involve pitching the idea or startup to judges over one or more rounds. Once each competing startup has presented, judges vote on which business (or businesses) will receive the offered reward.
While business plan competitions highly benefit winning startups, they offer immense benefits to investors who attend them also – access to early stage businesses that they can invest in before others have the opportunity. Furthermore, these competitions work to even out the playing field for entrepreneurs who otherwise may not have access to investors – winning a business plan contest could be the difference between funding your business’ launch or failing before you even get the chance to begin.
The most obvious benefit of winning a business plan contest is winning the offered reward. The reward value of these contests can vary from small amounts to extremely large amounts. For example, the Panasci Business Plan Competition by Syracuse University offers around $35,000 in total rewards, while the Rice Business Plan Competition offers over $1.2 million in seed funding to it’s winners and runner-ups. Winning the right competition can impact your business greatly; providing you with the app funding required to progress your business from the app idea phase to launch and beyond. There is something that should be considered however – some business plan competitions may come with specific conditions that must be met to receive the funding; such as headquartering the business in a certain location, offering up an equity percentage, or being involved in a startup incubator for some length of time.
High-profile angels and VCs often attend larger business plan competitions, and even participants that don’t win the contest may attract the attention of an investor. In some cases, teams that don’t win may end up with larger investments than those who the judges selected for first place. Investors aren’t always looking for the same things in a startup; your idea might not be of much interest to the judges, but may be exactly what an attending investor was looking for! These investors aren’t only good for the funds they bring – some of them may provide a critical mentorship component to your startup; helping to advise your team for greater success down the line.
Lastly, one of the least recognized but most effective benefits of participating in a business plan competition is having your business plan and startup critically reviewed by experienced judges, entrepreneurs and investors. Even if you don’t win, the insight provided by the panel of judges will offer different perspectives regarding your startup. Ultimately, by applying this insight, you can further position your startup for success when participating in future events.
Finding The Right Business Plan Contest
The unique beauty of business plan contests is that they are relatively ubiquitous – and today, more competitions are popping up than ever before. A variety of organizations, educational institutions, and even individuals organize business plan competitions to seek out investable and fundable business ideas. In general, most business plan contests can be grouped into two categories:
University Competitions: Many major universities organize some type of business plan contest through their business school. Eligibility may vary from contest to contest, but these contests are typically only available to those connected to the business program – students, alumni, and in some cases, even on-staff professionals. Due to these eligibility requirements, competition is generally limited – which means that participants have a much larger chance of winning when compared to contests with less regulation. Furthermore, universities know that any successful startups launched through these contests will give their business program a major boost in visibility and credibility. As a result, universities often go a step above to support winners of these programs – providing additional on-campus resources or even access to alumni professionals that can help them advance their businesses. 1
Sponsored Contests: Sponsored business plans are those that are planned and hosted by an organization, corporation, individual or other entity. Specifically, these organizers ‘sponsor’ the competition – organizing the event, involving investors and judges, and securing rewards to incentivize winners and participants. Sometimes, these competitions may be sponsored by companies within a specific sector such as biotech, healthcare, urban transit, architecture, and etc.; while other times they may be part of a larger
startup incubator or accelerator program.
Business plan and pitch deck competitions take place several times each year in most major cities – and even in many less popular upcoming startup regions. If you are a student or an alumni, check with your university to see if they have a business plan competition in place – if not, maybe you can help them organize one! For those who are not eligible to join a university-sponsored competition, a simple Google search will provide you with several options. Search for “industry name + business plan contest” or “city + business plan contest” to see what upcoming business plan contest events you may be eligible to participate in.
Winning Big At Your First Business Plan Contest
Participating in a business plan contest can be extremely valuable, but the real goal is to win – and to win big! The key to winning a business plan competition of any type is to know what the judges are looking for and to position your startup, business plan and pitch to exceed their expectations.
Judging The Judges
In general, whether you win a business plan contest or not will hinge upon how your business idea is perceived by the panel of judges, and how they perceive you as an entrepreneur and presenter. It is worth noting that judges often come from various backgrounds with varied experiences; what may be a top consideration for one judge may make little difference to another. However, most judges compare businesses on at least the following three factors:
Originality: Successful business ideas need to be original in nature and able to improve upon an existing solution, solve a wide-scale problem, or effectively meet the current market demand. Businesses that simply spin-off from other successful ideas are not looked upon favorably by judges or investors – since they usually have little advantage to compete against already established players. To win a business plan contest, it is essential that your idea is fresh, scalable, sustainable and eventually, profitable. 1
Ability To Generate Profit: Even the most creative ideas need to be able to turn a profit at some point. Understandably, most investors aren’t interested in funding businesses that won’t provide them with a return in the long-run. In order to gain interest in your business during a contest, your business plan should show exactly how your business will provide a return for investors in the long-term. While some investors may be interested in other aspects of a business, such as their social consciousness or involvement, the majority of investors are looking for opportunities to grow their portfolio by investing in businesses that are capable of generating strong profits. 2
Effective Presentation : It’s not always the best idea that wins a business plan competition. A perfect business plan and an exciting idea means very little if an entrepreneur can not properly convey their message during their presentation. In most contests, participants are given a set time limit (such as 10 minutes) to present – and expressing all the necessary information within this time period can be rather difficult. Judges look for confident entrepreneurs who can articulate their business enough to convey the efficacy and scalability of their idea properly. The knowledge an entrepreneur needs to possess doesn’t end with just the text presented in their business plan or pitch deck. Most often, there is a Q&A portion during these events in which the entrepreneur will be required to answer specific questions by judges and investors. The inability to answer these questions properly and confidently can quickly dissuade an investor from investing, or can cause a judge to give a lower score than they would have otherwise.
