Sudan: 23 people killed in a Ceramic factory fire in Khartoum

A factory fire, explosion killed at least 23 people in Sudan’s capital, the government said Tuesday.

Senior civil defense officials said on Tuesday that the blast at a factory in Khartoum northern suburb was so powerful it blew the tanker into a nearby lot, according to witnesses. The fire erupted when a gas tanker exploded unloading cargo at the factory and has ordered further investigation, the government said.

The blaze also injured nearly 130 people, several critically, the cabinet statement added, suggesting the death toll from the blaze could rise as the band were being treated at local hospitals.

Videos shared on social media showed fire and black smoke billowing from the factory located in an industrial area, CNN noted.
