South Sudan: Gunmen Storm Aid Group Compound

Armed men stormed an international aid group compound in South Sudan and assaulted several frontline workers yesterday.

Attacks on humanitarian aid and workers have been persistent crimes in South Sudan’s conflict, resulting in the death of at least 115 aid workers since 2013. Photography: Liatile Putsoa/IOM South Sudan.

Relief International calls the Sunday morning attack in Maban town a “senseless act of violence.” Staffers have since relocated, AP News stated. Though, no one has taken responsibility for the attack.

Lul Ruai Koang, South Sudan army spokesman said he was unaware of the attack, AP News noted.

In October 2019, three aid workers, who are staffs of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), were killed in the South Sudan.
