Lifebank wins Jack Ma’s Africa Netpreneur Prize

Temie Giwa-Tubosun, LifeBank founder took first place in Jack Ma’s inaugural Africa Netpreneur Prize contest on Saturday during a five-hour finale taped for TV in Accra, Ghana.

Contestants in the Africa Netpreneur Prize finale faced tough questions from the judges, which included Jack Ma, Alibaba Group Executive Vice Chairman Joe Tsai, Econet Group founder and Executive Chairman Strive Masiyiwa and First Bank of Nigeria Chairman and The Chair Centre Group founder Ibukun Awosika.

LifeBank is a healthcare technology and logistics company based in Lagos, Nigeria. The startup facilitates the transmission of blood from labs across the country to patients and doctors in hospitals. Launched on January 2016 by Temie Giwa-Tubosun. Lifebank have moved over 17769 units of blood to hospitals and screening centers.

Alizila noted that, Giwa-Tubosun pitched her way to a $250,000 cash prize over the course of eight months, beating out about 10,000 other applicants from 50 of Africa’s 54 countries to be named “Africa’s Business Hero.”

While the entries were whittled down to a semifinal round of 20 and then the final 10, who came to the Ghanaian capital this week to make their final pitches to four judges, including Ma in front of a television audience, Giwa-Tubosun’s focus on building an efficient delivery network for critical medical products stood out our source noted.
