Ibom Air is now operational

It’s a welcome development, that the Akwa Ibom governor, Udom Emmanuel, launched a Nigerian regional airline. Governor Emmanuel is owning Akwa Ibom state workers’ salary arrears and pensioners’ entitlements or refuse to pay the new national minimum wage of N30,000 then this Nigerian regional startup “Ibom Air” will be a misplaced priority.

Moreover, this initiative should have been a joint venture either with local or foreign investors due to our history of political interference and poor management of state-owned enterprises, likewise, the joint venture would have assisted the Akwa Ibom government to save money, though a joint venture has disadvantages, but then it offers several advantages to its participants. A joint venture increases productivity and generates greater profits, even it gives access to new markets and distribution networks.

Last year, Ethiopian Airlines and DHL Global Forwarding signed an agreement to form a joint venture company. DHL-Ethiopian Airlines, Logistics, in which Ethiopian Airlines assume a majority stake in the joint venture and will provide regulatory and operational support as DHL Global Forwarding establishes air, ocean, and road freight connections between Ethiopia’s main trade hubs and the rest of the world. All the best to Ibom Air.
